Plant-Water Relations
Question

Choose the correct statement with respect to flaccid cell.

Moderate
Solution

A cell is said to flaccid when no pressure is exerted by protoplast on the cell wall. i.e. the pressure potential or turgor pressure is zero and there is no contribution of pressure potential to water potential. Since the cell has certain amount of solute there is negative solute potential which alone contributes to water potential of cell. Hence the water potential of cell is equal to its osmotic potential.
