Both monocot and dicot root pericycle can form lateral roots. Monocot roots have extensive medulla compared to dicot root. Monocot roots have more than six vascular bundles (Polyarch) where as dicot roots usually have two to four vascular bundles (diarch to tetrarch) condition. Vascular cambium is formed by pericycle and conjunctive tissue of dicot root but not by monocot root.
