During photorespiration, the amino acid glycine (2 molecules) by the catalytic activity of glycine decarboxylase (a multienzyme complex) is decarboxylated, deaminated ( ${NH}_{4}^{+}$ ) and oxidized (removal of H atoms and formation of NADH) to a molecule of amino acid serine.
