The frequency of recombination between genes present on the same chromosome as a measure of the distance between genes was explained by
Alfred Sturtevant constructed the first genetic map of a chromosome. He had worked on Drosophila melanogaster. Genetic maps measure the distance between the genes. The distance between the genes are directly related to the frequency of recombination. Greater the frequency of recombination greater is the distance between the genes.
Sutton and Boveri noted that the behavior of chromosome was parallel to the behavior of genes and used chromosomal movement to explain Mendel’s Laws.
T. H. Morgan had done the experimental verification of chromosomal theory of inheritance.
Gregor J. Mendel is known as the father of genetics and he had worked with Pisum sativum.
