Detailed Solution
Based on the position of floral parts on thalamus, flowers are divided into three types shown in the figures. Figures A, B and C are respectively hypogynous, perigynous and epigynous flower. When the calyx, corolla and androecium arise below the ovary, the flower is called hypogynous. In these flowers the ovary is superior. e.g., cruciferae, liliaceae. In perigynous condition of flower, the calyx, corolla and androecium arise around the ovary. In these flowers the ovary is semi inferior. e.g., Saxifraga. When the calyx, corolla and androecium arise from the top of the ovary, the flower is called epigynous. In these flowers the ovary is inferior. e.g., umbiliferae, compositae.
