Golden rice is a genetically modified crop plant where the incorporated gene is meant for biosynthesis of Vitamin A. Golden rice has enhanced nutritional value.
In this case two genes are introduced from daffodils (Narcissus- plant) and the third one from the soil bacteria Erwinia uredovora. Genes are inserted in edible parts of rice to produce beta-carotene which further produces pro-vitamin A. This rice has 23 times more beta-carotene than the original rice.
