The enzyme fructose 1,6-bisphosphate aldolase, often called simply aldolase, catalyzes a reversible aldol condensation. Fructose 1,6-bisphosphate is cleaved to yield two different triose phosphates, glyceraldehyde 3- phosphate, an aldose, and dihydroxyacetone phosphate, a ketose.
