Nature of Bond Linking Monomers in a Polymer
Question

Identify the substances having glycosidic bond and peptide bond, respectively in their structure :

Moderate
Solution

Inulin is sugar polymer so it has glycosidic bond while insulin consists of polypeptides. So it has peptide bonds.

Inulin is the smallest polysaccharide made up of fructose. It is formed by β (2,1) glycosidic linkages. It is the reserve food material found in Asteraceae members.

Insulin has two polypeptide chains. These polypeptide chains are held together by disulphide linkage.

Simple lipid is glycerol which is trihydroxy propane.

Trypsin is a protein.

Cellulose is a linear, unbranched straight molecule in which adjacent β-glucose units are joined by β(14) linkages. Cellulose is a polymeric polysaccharide consisting of only one type of monosaccharide i.e., glucose. Cellulose is a homopolymer.

Lecithin (Phosphatidyl choline) are involved in regulating cell permeability and osmotic tension of cells.

Chitin is a structural homopolysaccharide. It is found in fungal wall and exoskeleton of arthropods. Chitin is insoluble in water. It is a polymer of N-acetyl glucosamine and monomers are joined by  β(14) linkages.

Cholesterol is fat soluble steroid alcohol. Cholesterol is absent in vegetable oils.
