An inflorescence with younger flowers at the base and the older ones at its apex is known as cymose. This arrangement is called basipetal arrangement of flower. In cymose type of inflorescence the main axis terminates in a flower, hence is limited in growth.
In racemose type of inflorescences, the main axis continues to grow, the flowers are borne laterally in an acropetal succession.
In hypanthium peduncle is modified into a deep fleshy cup like structure. Many sessile unisexual flowers are arranged irregularly. Male flowers are near the opening and female flowers are at the bottom. Sterile female flowers are found in between male and female flowers. These are called gall flowers.
