When a leaf peeling of Tradescantia is kept in a medium containing 10% NaCl after few minutes we observe the leaf peel under microscope, we are likely to see the exit of water from the cell. This happens because the external solution is hypertonic in nature. Hence the solute concentration in the external solution is higher than that present inside the cell. Therefore, water starts flowing out of the cell to the external hypertonic solution.
