The C4 Pathway
Question

Match the following with respect to C4 cycle.

List – IList – II
A)Product of Carboxylation coupled to dephosphorylation of substrateI)Phosphoenol pyruvic acid
B)Product of carboxylation and cleavage of the substrate.II)Oxaloacetic acid
C)Product of oxidative decarboxylation reactionIII)Phosphoglyceric acid
D)Product of substrate phosphorylation reactionIV)Pyruvic acid

Moderate
Solution

In the primary carboxylation of C4 cycle there is carboxylation and dephosphorylation of phosophoenol pyruvic acid to form oxaloacetic acid. In oxidative decarboxylation reaction malic acid is converted to pyruvic acid. In the phosphorylation reaction pyruvic acid is converted to phosphoenol pyruvic acid. In the secondary carboxylation reaction ribulose-bisphosphate is carboxylated and cleaved to phosphoglyceric acid.
