Phloem exudates contain non-reducing sugars like sucrose, raffinose, stachyose, verbascose etc., which have greater chemical stability. Nonreducing sugars are less likely to react with other substances along the way. Indeed, free glucose and fructose, both reducing sugars, are rarely found in phloem exudates.
