In pitcher plant, the leaf base is normal, the basal part of petiole is modified as phyllode to carryout photosynthesis, the upper part of phyllode is modified as tendril for making the plant climb over the support. The lamina is modified as flask shaped trap and leaf apex is modified as attractive lid like structure. The flask shaped lamina helps in catching, killing and digesting the insects.
