Grasses are monocots and monocots usually do not show secondary growth. This is because in monocots vascular cambium  is absent. Vascular bundles are scattered and closed type.
Secondary growth is seen in dicotyledonous plants (deciduous angiosperms) and gymnosperms (cycads, conifers).
