In the mechanism of self-incompatibility, though the pollen grains or the same flower of different flower of the same plant are deposited on the stigma of a flower, the pollen grains either not allowed to germinate or the growth of the pollen tube is hindered at the stigma as well as style level to avoid the male gametes to be involved in fertilizing the embryo sac of the flower.
