Read the different components from (i) to (iv) in the list given below and tell the correct order of the components with reference to their arrangement from outer side to inner side in a woody dicot stem.
(i) Secondary cortex
(ii) Wood
(iii) Secondary phloem
(iv) Phellem
The correct order is
Components of woody Dicot stem from outer side to inner side is
Phellem→ Secondar cortex→ Secondary phloem→ Wood
The cork cambium or phellogen cuts cells both on outer and inner side. The outer cells differentiate into cork or phellem while the inner cells differentiate into secondary cortex or phelloderm.
The vascular cambium ring produces secondary phloem on the outer side and secondary xylem or wood on the inner side.
Wood (inner most) → Secondary phloem (Outer side of vascular cambium ring) → Secondary cortex (inner to the phellogen) → Phellem (outer most layer)
