Mosses and lichens are the first organisms to colonise on bare rock. Lichens are pioneer species in xerarch succession. Then mosses takes over the process.
Main plant body in bryophytes is gametophytic, whereas in pteridophytes it is sporophytic. 
The gymnosperms are heterosporous; they produce haploid microspores and megaspores. The two kinds of spores are produced within sporangia that are borne on sporophylls which are arranged spirally along an axis to form lax or compact strobili or cones.
On the other hand, Selaginella is heterosporous and Coralloid roots in Cycas is associated with N2 fixing cyanobacteria.
