In maturation region some of epidermal cells form very fine and delicate, thread like structures called root hairs. These root hairs absorb water and minerals from soil
Root hairs are expansion of epidermis and therefore can’t arise in root cap. There is no epidermis in meristematic zone and elongation zone.
