In both DNA and RNA nucleotides are connected by phosphodiester linkages to form polynucleotide strands. DNA is a polymer of deoxyribonucleotides. Thymine is a nitrogenous base found only in DNA. In RNA uracil is present instead of thymine. DNA is the genetic material in all living organisms. Some viruses can have RNA as the genetic material.
