M Phase
Question

For a somatic cell with 2n = 4. Which of the following is true?
(Note : G1 – growth phase 1, G2 – growth phase 2, M-Metaphase, P – Prophase and T – Telophase)

Easy
Solution

If in a somatic cell 2n=4. After S phase, the amount of DNA doubles but the number of chromosomes remain the the same, i.e., the chromatids are held by the same centromere. In G1 phase the number of chromatids in the cell would be 4. Therefore at G2 phase the number of chromatids would become 8 but the number of chromosomes would still remain 4. In prophase also the same continues, i.e., the number of chromosomes are 4 and the number of chromatids are 8.
