Statement A: Vegetative cells are involved in sexual reproduction in Basidiomycetes
Statement B: In Basidiomycetes the sexual spores known as basidiospores are formed exogenously on the basidium.
In Basidiomycetes sex organs are absent. Sexual reproduction takes place by the fusion of vegetative cells of monokaryotic mycelium of different strains. The dikaryotic cells formed due to this, divide and redivide and form a dikaryotic mycelium. It forms fruiting bodies known as basidiocarps. In the basidiocarp basidia are present in which there is karyogamy and meiosis takes place. Over the basidium, four haploid basidiospores are formed exogenously.
