Question

Stomatal movement is not affected by

Moderate
Solution

Oxygen does not affect the stomatal movement.

Stomatal movement is an enzymatic (Like PEPcase) process. Therefore, it is dependent on temperature. Light controls temperature and also activates the enzyme PEPcase. Therefore, stomatal movement is dependent on light as well as temperature.

Carbon dioxide concentration also affects the stomatal movement. Carbon dioxide concentration is increased in dark as photosynthesis ceases but respiration continues. Increase in CO2 concentration decreases the pH which in turn triggers polymerization of glucose. Therefore, the water potential increases and water starts flowing out of the cell thereby closing stomata.
