Question

Suppose in a flower of mustard, each microsporangium possess 30 pollen mother cell then, the total number of male gametes formed by this flower will be?

Difficult
Solution

1 Pollen Mother Cell (PMC) undergoes meiosis to produce 4 microspores.

30 PMC produces 30* 4= 120 microspores.

1 Microspore produces 2 male gametes.

120 micropspores produces 120*2=240 male gametes.

1 anther has 4 microsporangia

Therefore, total number of male gametes in 4 microsporangia of the anther= 240*4=960

In mustard there is the presence of 6 stamens.

Therefore, total number of male gametes in 6 stamens= 960*6= 5760 male gametes
