Water vapour comes out from the plant leaf through the stomatal opening. Through the same stomatal opening carbon dioxide diffuses into the plant during photosynthesis. Reason out the above statements using one of following options.

Solution

Transpiration is the loss of water in the form of water vapour from the aerial part of the plant. During photosynthesis the carbon dioxide diffuses into the plant. Both these processes can occur simultaneously because the diffusion coefficient of water and CO2 is different. The molar mass of water vapour and carbon dioxide is different. Hence, the rate of diffusion will also be different.
