What is expected to happen when a freshwater protozoan is placed in marine water?

In freshwater protozoans, the function of contractile vacuole is hydrostatic or osmoregulatory. When freshwater protozoan is placed in marine water which is denser (hypertonic) than its cytoplasmic medium then contractile vacuoles will discharge water content into the marine water and its size will become very small or insignificant.
