What is the fate of the male gametes discharged in the synergid?
Out of the male gametes discharged in the synergid, one fuses with the egg and other fuses with central cell nuclei. The fusion between male gamete and egg is called syngamy or true fertilisation which forms zygote (2n). The fusion between male gamete and central cell nuclei is called triple fusion and it results in the formation of a triploid primary endosperm nucleus (3n).
