Which body of the Government of India regulates GM research and safety of introducing GM organisms for public services?

The Indian Government has set up organisations as Genetic Engineering Approval Committee(GEAC), which will make decisions regarding the validity of GM research and the safety of introducing GM-organisms for public services.The technology of biogas production was developed in India mainly due to the efforts of Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
