Meiotic divisions are not observed in callus culture. Genetic variations among plant cells of culture is called somaclonal variations. Beneficial somaclonal variations are used for plant breeding. Large scale propagation of plants under aseptic conditions by tissue culture is named as micropropagation. Usually parenchyma cells are used as explants and they divide continuously to form callus.
