In pteridophytes, gametophytes are thalloid, multicellular, and have unicellular rhizoids but not organized as stem like and leaf like structures. Leaves of Selaginella are microphyllous as they are small and have only midrib. Sporophylls of some pteridophytes and almost all gymnosperms form distinct compact structures called strobili or cones. Adiantum is a pteropsid and commonly called as walking fern.
