This rice is rich in beta-carotene or vitamin A. In this case two genes are introduced from daffodils (Narcissus- plant) and the third one from the soil becteria Erwinia uredovora. Genes are inserted in edible parts of rice to produce beta-carotene which further produces pro-vitamin A. This rice has 23 times more beta-carotene than the original rice.
