Post-fertilisation: Structures and Events
Question

Which one of the following statements regarding post fertilisation development in flowering plants is incorrect?

Easy
Solution

The embryo sac is the female gametophyte. Embryo sac therefore contains the egg cell. The development of embryo sac is a pre-fertilization event.

After fertilization the ovary gets converted into the fruit and the ovary wall forms the fruit wall or the pericarp. Development of embryo occurs only after zygote is established. When one of the male gametes fuse with the secondary nucleus it forms the primary endosperm nucleus and the central cell is called the primary endosperm cell (PEC). This PEC further develops into the endosperm.
