Question

After the electrolysis of aqueous solution of NaCl using Pt electrodes, the pH of the solution

Easy
Solution

2NaCl \rightleftharpoons 2N{a^ + } + 2C{l^ - }

At Cathode

SRP\,\,of\,\,{H_2}O > SRP\,of\,N{a^ + }

H2O under goes reduction.

2{H_2}O \rightleftharpoons {H_2} + 2O{H^ - } - 2{e^ - }

At Anode

SOP\,\,of\,\,C{l^ - } > SOP\,of\,{H_2}O

Cl- undergoes oxidation.

2C{l^ - } - 2{e^ - } \rightleftharpoons C{l_2}

In the vessel Naand  OH- reacts with each other and forms NaOH,which is a strong base. PH increases.
