Solution

Following is the hydrolysis of borax.
$N a_{2} B_{4} O_{7} + H_{2} S O_{4} + H_{2} O \to H_{3} B O_{3}$
Now Boric acid obtained is heated to obtain boric anhydride, followed by reduction with Mg. Boron obtained in this way is amorphous and 95-98% pure.
$H_{3} B O_{3} \to B_{2} O_{3} \overset{M g}{\to} M g O + B$
