Question

Aqueous solution of CuSO4 is electrolysed using inert electrodes till the blue coloured solution becomes colourless. The colourless solution formed is

Easy
Solution

CuS{O_4} \rightleftharpoons C{u^{ + 2}} + SO_4^{ - 2}

At Cathode

SRP of Cu+2  > SRP of H2O.   Cu+2 undergoes reduction.

C{u^{ + 2}} + 2{e^ - } \rightleftharpoons Cu

At Anode

SOP\,\,of\,\,{H_2}O > SOP\,of\,SO_4^{ - 2}

H2O readily undergoes Oxidation

2{H_2}O \rightleftharpoons {O_2} + 4{H^ + } + 4{e^ - }

In the Vessel H+ reacts with SO_{4}^{-2} and forms colorless solution H2SO4
