Nernst Equation
Question

For the cell Zn/Zn2+//Cu2+/Cu, if the concentration of Zn2+ and Cu2+ ions is doubled, the emf of the cell

Easy
Solution

From Nernst equation

{E_{cell}} = E_{cell}^o - \frac{{0.0591}}{2}\log \frac{{\left[ {Z{n^{ + 2}}} \right]}}{{\left[ {C{u^{ + 2}}} \right]}}

When concentrations are doubled ratio \frac{[Zn^{+2}]}{[Cu^{+2}]} remains same. Ecell remains same.
