Solution

To recover NH₃ in Solvay ammonia soda process Ca(OH)₂is used.
$2 {NH}_{4} Cl + Ca (OH)_{2} ⟶ 2 {NH}_{3} + {CaCl}_{2} + 2 H_{2} O$
On passing CO₂ through Ca(OH)₂,it turns milky due to the formation of CaCO₃
$Ca (OH)_{2} + {CO}_{2} ⟶ {CaCO}_{3} ↓ + H_{2} O$
Ca(OH)₂ is used for white washing.
