Hydrogen Peroxide
Question

Consider the reactions :
A) H2O2 + 2HI → I2 + 2H2O
B) HOCl + H2O → H3O+ + Cl + O2
Which of the following statements is correct about H2O2 with reference to these reactions? Hydrogen peroxide is ___

Easy
Solution

In 1st reaction H2O2 oxidises the \mathop {HI}\limits^{ - 1} to \mathop {I_2}\limits^{ o}
\therefore H2O2 acts as oxidising agent (O.A)
In 2nd reaction H2O2 reduces the \mathop {HI}\limits^{ + 1} to \mathop {Cl}\limits^{^{ - 1} \ominus }
\therefore H2O2 acts as reducing agent.
