The water gas is mixed with excess of steam and passed $450^{0} C$ over a heated catalyst $({Fe}_{2} O_{3} + {Cr}_{2} O_{3}) .$ CO is mostly oxidised to ${CO}_{2}$ and more $H_{2}$ is set free. ${CO}_{2}$ is absorbed in alkali.
