Amylose is a linear polymer of $α - D$ glucose held by $C_{1} - C_{4}$ glycosidic linkage whereas amylopectin is branched chain polymer of $α - D$ glucose units in which chain is held by $C_{1} - C_{4}$ glycosidic linkage while branching occurs by $C_{1} - C_{6}$ glycosidic linkage.
