Faraday's Laws
Question

Electrolysis of dilute aqueous NaCl solution was carried out by passing 10 milli ampere current. The time required to liberate 0.01 mol of H2 gas at the cathode is  (1 Faraday = 96500 C mol-1)

Moderate
Solution

Number of equivalents  of H2 liberated = 0.01 x 2 =0.02

Number of coulombs required = No.of equivalents x 96500=0.02 x 96500 =1930 C

Number of coulombs = i x t sec =0.01 amp x t sec

t = 1930 \times {10^2} = 19.3 \times {10^4}\sec
