Emulsions find application in

(1) Cleansing action of soap is due to the formation of emulsions. Soaps and detergents emulsify the grease alongwith adhering dirt and carry them away in the wash-water. (2) During concentration of ores, the finely powdered ore is treated with an oil which forms emulsions. When air is bubbled into the mixture, emulsion containing the particles rich in mineral are carried on the surface.(3) Several oily drugs are prepared in the form of emulsions to facilitate their adsorption in the body.(4) Petroleum products are in the form of emulsions. Their separation into constituent liquids by centrifugation, freezing filtration, electrostatic precipitation called de-emulsification.
