O2 molecule is stronger ligand than H2O. So in oxyhemoglobin Δ0 is more than in deoxyhemoglobin. Hence oxyhemoglobin absorbs a radiation of lesser wave length having more energy. Since oxyhemoglobin and deoxy hemoglobin are absorbing different they have different colours. So blood having oxyhemoglobin flowing in the arteries have different colour than the blood having deoxy hemoglobin. Since O2 is stronger ligand the electrons Fe2+ are paired t2g6eg0 and becomes diamagnetic but in deoxyhemoglobin due to weak field it is paramagnetic with t2g4eg2 config. When electrons are unpaired and as all the orbitals contain electrons due to repulsion between these the size Fe2+ ion increases in deoxyhemoglobin.
