Water and Heavy water
Question

In the following reactions which is deuterolysis
I) AlCl3 + 3D2O → Al(OD)3 + 3DCl
II) CaC2 + 2D2O → Ca(OD)2 + C2D2
III) Mg3P2 + 6D2O → 3Mg(OD)2+ 2PD3

Easy
Solution

Deuterolysis means addition of Deuterated water to a compound in the form of D+ & OD- . During Deuterolysis cleavage of bonds in the compound takes place

  • AlCl3 + 3D2O → A(OD)3 + 3DCl

  •  CaC2 + 2D2O → Ca(OD)2 + C2D2
  • Mg3p2 + 6D2O  → Ca(OD)2 + 2pD3
