Glucose cannot react with weak carbonyl reagents like schiff's reagent,NH3,NaHSO3;This fact cannot be explained by open chain structure but can be explained by its hemi acetal structure(ring structure);These reagents cannot open up the the ring structure or in other words they cannot increase the the percentage of open structure in the equilibrium mixture containing α-D-glucose≈36%,β-D-glucose≈64% and open chain form≈0.5% ;
