transition metals and their oxides have ccp,hcp and bcc structures.  presence of voids on their surface makes them very good catalysts                    Gaseous reactants get adsorbed on the surface of transition metals(or) their oxides and form an adsorption complex,decomposition of adsorption complex gives product
