I) CuSO4 + 5H2O → CuSO4 . 5H2O
II) PCl3 + 3H2O → H3PO3 + 3HCl.
The processes I and II are respectively
Hydrolysis : The addition of watermolecules to the compound in the form H+ & OH- ions is acalled Hydrolysis.
(or)
PCl3 + 3H2O → H3PO3 + 3HCl
Hydration : The addition of watermolecules to the salt without cleavage is said to be hydration.
CuSO4 + 5H2O → CuSO4.5H2O
Therefore, PCl3 undergoes hydrolysis, Whereas CuSO4 involves in hydration process.
