Question

Molarity of a solution of density 0.6 g/ml is 1 M. Molality of the same solution under similar conditions will be (Molar mass of solute - 150 g)

Moderate
Solution

Molarity of the solution = 1 M

Number of moles of solute = 1

Volume of the solution = 1000 ml

Density of the solution = 0.6 g/ml

Weight of the solution = V x d = 600 g

Weight of solute = Wsolution-Wsolute

                          = (600 - 150) g

                         = 450 g

molality (m) = nsolute×1000Wsolvent

                   =1×1000450=2.22 m
