Conc. HNO3… strong oxidant – not only oxidizes -CHO gp to -COOH but also oxidizes −CH2OH−  group also to -COOH group;Br2/H2O  , Tollen’s, Fehling’s, Benedict’s .. mild oxidants.. oxidizes -CHO group only to -COOH group
