Detailed Solution

(1,3,4) When soap or detergent is used as cleansing agent, R part of the anion is hydrophobic and dissolves grease, oil, dust etc. It is called tail of the anion. COO- part of the anion is hydrophilic and remains soluble in water. It is called head of the anion. The tail part dissolves in the grease deposit and thus, micelle is formed which in turn is removed by rinsing with water (2) Main function of the soap is to reduce oily and greasy dirt to colloidal particles (in emulsion). Thus. soaps are called emulsifying agents
