Ionization energy required to convert   Al  to Al3+  is   5137 kJ mol−1.   ΔHhydration  for Al3+  is  −4665  kJ  mol−1  and  ΔHhydration  for  Cl−  is  −381  kJ  mol−1.  So total hydration energy −4665  +  3 ×  −381  = −5808  kJ  mol−1 is greater than ionization energy.
